Baumit’s innovative self-cleaning render has brought a seamless, stunning new look to a period property which featured in C4’s Old House, New Home.
The popular makeover show sees host George Clarke use his architectural skills to give owners’ dated homes a stylish 21st Century redesign, inside and out.
For the programme which aired in November, homeowners Chev and Lauren Walker enlisted Clarke’s expert help to renovate their three-bedroom property in Mirfield, west Yorkshire. The house, bought for £225,000, was described as ‘terrible on every level’ by the host due to its poor layout. Its frontage – ‘part Victorian stone farmhouse and part red brick 1970s extension’ – also came in for criticism. As part of its £105,000 refurbishment, a new balcony, an adult snug room, and metallic and concrete walls transformed the interior layout, whilst Baumit’s innovative, ready-to-use render system was applied to unite the exterior façade to create a striking, uniform finish.
Homeowner, Chev Walker said:
“We, as a family, are blown away by the finish of the job and would 100% recommended everyone use Baumit. Our project was pulled together and finished to the highest standard because of the rendering. Before, our house was a mish-mash of red brick and old tired render – it really was an eyesore. However, now that we have wrapped the house in the best quality Baumit materials, it really has become the home we desired and searched years for. It is now a house that we are proud to call home.”
In unifying the detached property’s disparate façade, Baumit’s UniRend three-part system was used on the home’s new blockwork. The crack-resistant render combines a pre-blended, factory-mixed basecoat with a silicon-based thin coat final layer as an alternative to sand and cement. UniRend’s flexible finish has many advantages, such as strong protection for masonry, breathable wall construction and easy application.
Baumit’s unique, self-cleaning Nanopor render provided the façade’s topcoat. The system helps create a seamless effect coupled with a robust system that provides protection, flexibility and breathability. Requiring nothing more than sunlight, humidity and wind to provide a uniform, dirt-free surface, Nanopor render helps façades look as good as the day they were refurbished, for years to come.
Chev Walker added:
“The amount of compliments we have received from passers-by since completing the house has been incredible. To add to that, the service we received from Chris Kendall at Baumit was a massive help. It really removed the stress of making big decisions, such as finish colour and texture. His expertise could be trusted and the result is proof of that.”
Thanks to Baumit, Chev and Lauren’s period residence has been rendered stunning, once more.
