Repair of facade with cracks > 0.5 mm

If your existing render has cracks with a width of more than 0.5 mm, it is important to repair immediately because the penetration of moisture can lead to further, more serious damage to the entire façade.

3 steps to a new façade

Existing render that has cracks with a width greater than 0.5 mm should be completely rennovated, with new façade render applied.

Step 1

Oprava fasády s trhlinami

Remove any loose parts from the existing surface by brushing down.

Step 2

Oprava fasády s trhlinami

Render the façade using Baumit MultiContact White, reinforced with fibre glass mesh.

Step 3

Nová fasádna farba

Then apply a new façade paint or render, depending on required finish.

Step by step working instructions

1. Assess existing façade

Fasáda s trhlinami

Check the crack width and remove any peeling parts from the surface using a spatula. Brush or pressure wash the dusty and dirty facade. If the facade still has other deficiencies, it is necessary to remove them first.

2. What do you need?

Oprava fasády s trhlinami

3. Renovation render

Put the content of the Baumit MultiContact into about 6.0 L of clean water. Stir well with a hand-held electric stirrer until smooth and without any lumps. After 5 minutes of rest, stir again. Processing time: approx. 1.5 hours.

4. Façade rendering

Prestierkovanie fasády

Apply Baumit MultiContact to the surface of the façade using a toothed smoothing tool. Place the fiber glass mesh onto the fresh render, (use Baumit StarTex) with 10 cm of overlapping. Once the mesh is in place, wipe the surface of the render so that the reinforcement is not visible. Reinforcement layer thickness 3 - 5 mm.

5. Render smoothing

Before finishing the façade , apply the topcoat in two layers. After slight drying of the first layer, apply the second thin layer and after sufficient drying, smooth the surface texture with a polystyrene, felt or foam smoother.

6. New surface finish

Striekanie fasádnej farby

After a minimum of 3 days you can apply a uniformly mixed façade paint to the surface of the render, e.g. Baumit StarColor, NanoporColor. Baumit façade paint may also be applied using airless spraying to allow for fast and even application of the façade paint in a short time. Suitable for large uniform surfaces.
