Life Challenge:
The European Baumit Facade

The façade of a house is its face, reflecting the unique style and personality of its occupants. Through the Baumit Life Challenge, we embark on a journey to unveil the rich potential within plaster, exploring the dynamic interplay of diverse materials, textures, forms, and colors. Join us in reimagining the way we perceive and utilize this versatile medium, and discover the boundless creativity it holds.

Life Challenge – The Competition
In 2012, Baumit unveiled "Life" - a groundbreaking color program for façades, marking Europe's largest of its kind. Fueled by imagination, craftsmanship, and a palette of vibrant hues, this initiative sparked the birth of the Baumit Life Challenge.

Since its inaugural success in Vienna (Austria) in 2014, the Baumit Life Challenge has become a biennial celebration, honoring the most exceptional façades across Europe. Drawing in around 500 attendees from all European Baumit-affiliated countries, the event gathers the crème de la crème of Baumit architects, investors, and partners. Join us in this exhilarating tribute to architectural excellence and innovative design.

RECAP 2022: Unveiling Architectural Marvels: Baumit Life Challenge in Valencia
The Baumit Life Challenge 2022 in Valencia was a celebration of architectural excellence and innovation. This prestigious event brought together outstanding buildings that pushed the boundaries of design and construction. From avant-garde structures to sustainable marvels, each project showcased the limitless possibilities in modern architecture.

The historical renovation project Cukrarna won the main award in 2022 and brought the event to Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Cukrarna, a former sugar refinery, was built in 1828. The key idea was to carve out all internal structures of the building, preserving only the historic envelope, and convert it into a multi-functional space for contemporary art. Today represents a revolutionary new space in the cultural infrastructure of Ljubljana. The winning project is a prime example of how an old unused industrial building was given a new lease of life by means of well thought-out planning and renovation and put to a completely new use.
