Passive House on the Marina
Although the original dwelling was fully removed, oak parquet floors were reused, and windows were salvaged for a future project. The mature vegetation and trees were protected and retained. Construction methods and materials reduce the building’s carbon footprint. Locally manufactured elements (timber frame & cellulose insulation), natural and low VOC materials (wood fibre, cellulose, lime mortar), 70% GGBS concrete raft foundations and a brick slip rainscreen system to reduce the material volume. The buff brick with lime mortar and render detailing, references the brick finishes of the existing dwellings to the east. Working closely with Baumit to develop a project specific solution enabled a seamless interface between the brick slip system and the lime render features. Full size samples were employed to finalise details.
