This family home based in Nottinghamshire has been completely renovated inside and out to transform it from a 1970s weathered house to a modern, energy efficient home that the owners can be proud of.
The property had been completely untouched since it was built in the 1970’s, with original design features still in place. As well as extending the property, the occupiers wanted to above all improve the energy efficiency of the house. When the original tile hanging was removed ready to be replaced it revealed the wall was constructed with solid light-weight blocks with no cavity or insulation in place. External wall insulation is the perfect solution for these situations, so Baumit StarTherm EPS system was used to insulate these areas of the wall, instantly improving energy efficiency.
For a contemporary look that complemented the elements of wooden cladding and anthracite windows and features, the newly insulated walls were finished in white Baumit SilikonTop insulated render ensuring the finish not only looked good, but further improved the thermal envelope of the entire house.
WPS Plastering Contractors who completed the work, recommended the Baumit StarSystem EPS external wall insulation system as this best met the needs of the occupiers and their goals for aesthetics and insulation efficiency. Working with Baumit, WPS were able to present their clients with samples of the render to assist them in making the final decision on texture and colour for the finish.
Fiona Harrison, the architect and investor for the project said:
"The old tile hanging rattled in the wind and wasn't very attractive as the colour had started to fade. The house feels a lot warmer and less draughty and looks A LOT better since the rendered insulation was fitted."
