White ft. black
This residential building is located in the part of Ljubljana in which multi-apartment dwelling predominates to the north and south and detached houses to the east. One of the aims at the design stage was to insert a building that would bring the wider area together. At the same time, the architects were aware that the building would help to create a new image for the area along the street. Despite the simple and logical design, they were keen to go beyond the existing building in design terms. They designed four typical residential floors, arranging them ‘randomly’ and vertically around a central communications core. The same principle was applied to create 120 balconies; these soften the austerely orthogonal appearance of the building and create a contrast with the white facade in terms of colour and material. Each floor typically contains six apartments ranging in size between 55 and 70 m². Office premises are located on the ground floor of the part that connects to the existing building, while the upper-floor areas contain storage rooms and a bicycle storage area.
