Nemunas Park
The task of the conversion project was to create modern housing of the highest standards for people who want to live closer to nature. The existing building - the defunct Prienai Special School - was reconstructed into an apartment building. The structure of the school was favorable and easily adapted to a building of residential typology, both structurally and in terms of countries around the world. Vegetation, trees have been preserved in the environment, and barriers of bushes and greenery have been additionally formed for private patios and terraces. In the area, significant attention is paid to new paths leading towards the river, a parking lot is installed in the northern part of the plot with several greened sheds. Both the facade and the structural composition of the apartment building were dictated by the existing situation: the former window openings were enlarged to the ceiling to let in more light, the plan structure was adapted from the existing corridor system by forming two separate staircase sections. The composition of the building's facade was born from adapting to the existing window locations and introducing spatially closed loggias and a checkerboard pattern of open balconies.
